Bexley City Council’s Response to Racism Against Asian Communities

April 14, 2021 by smetcalf@bexley.org

In recent months, acts of physical and verbal violence against people of Asian heritage have occurred across our country. These attacks are deplorable and heartbreaking, demonstrating again the racism that exists in our society. In this moment, it is important that we stand together against the racism and violence directed at the Asian and Asian-American members of our community, as well as their family members and loved ones.

Bexley City Council would like to extend our support and sympathies to our Asian community. We come together to reaffirm our commitment to calling out, and standing against, racism. We come together in solidarity with anyone and everyone who is subject to racist violence and hatred in their many forms.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to making the City of Bexley a community where all are welcome, included, feel safe and are fully valued.

– Bexley City Council
President Lori Ann Feibel, Matt Klingler, Monique Lampke, Troy Markham, Jen Robinson, Jess Saad, and Richard Sharp

Ohio Law Allowing Electric Scooters on Sidewalks

April 9, 2021 by smetcalf@bexley.org

This month, Ohio law went into effect to enable the lawful use of electric scooters and other “low speed micromobility devices”, after the passage earlier this year of House Bill 295. We may begin to see scooters in our community, now that scooters will lawfully be allowed to use roadways and sidewalks. Bexley has the right to further limit Ohio law, and we are interested in hearing from residents.

Email communicator@bexley.org with any feedback on the change to Ohio law, and how it impacts our community. All responses and opinions we receive will be shared with City Council.

A Message from Animal Control Officer Jennings Regarding Bexley’s Leash Law

April 1, 2021 by smetcalf@bexley.org

Warmer weather is finally here, and people are getting out more which means more people out walking their dogs!

Bexley is a great community with many dog lovers, but there are some people who are afraid of dogs and seeing a dog off leash is terrifying to them. Bexley has a leash law for your dog’s safety, and the safety of others. Dogs are animals and a change in the environment, a loud sound, or a fast critter running past are just a few of the things that may make your dog run when they typically wouldn’t. A leash fixes that problem.

There are parks in Columbus you can take your dog if you must have them off leash to run. Not everyone has a dog that is social with new people and animals so again dogs on leashes will keep everyone safe. Some dogs are animal friendly but leash reactive, which means another animal they know isn’t welcome to run up on them while they are leashed and out for a walk. Let’s be considerate to our neighbors, and a leashed dog is the law!

If you have questions about Bexley’s leash laws, contact ACO Jennings at (614) 559-4444, or by email at ajennings@bexley.org.
