Redevelopment is on the horizon for North Cassady and East Livingston avenues as The Community Builders (TCB) prepares to break ground on their two “Bexley Apartments” sites. Years in the making, this milestone reflects extensive planning, community engagement, and strong collaboration between the City, TCB, and the Bexley Community Improvement Corporation (CIC), the City’s nonprofit development partner.
Once complete, the development will create new affordable housing opportunities, enhance the surrounding streetscape, and establish a future home for the City’s senior center—bringing new energy, investment, and community amenities to two of our core commercial corridors. As planning for the senior center advances, expect opportunities to provide feedback to help ensure the new space is designed with our community needs in mind.

Update – May 27: With hundreds of responses already received, the polling firm will begin supplementing postcard invitations with email invitations. Should you receive an email invitation from Saperstein Associates to complete the 2026 Community Survey, please consider responding. Thanks in advance for all your feedback!
Beginning in late May, randomly selected Bexley households will begin receiving postcard invitations to participate in the City’s 2026 Community Survey. This survey is one of the many ways Bexley residents can help shape the future of our community by sharing thoughts on City services, housing, shopping and dining options, neighborhood quality of life, and more.
The City has partnered with professional opinion polling firm Saperstein Associates to help gather and analyze community feedback. All individual responses collected by Saperstein Associates are completely anonymous. If your household receives an invitation, we encourage you to take a few minutes to participate. To ensure a balanced survey sample, households with more than one adult are asked to have the adult with the next upcoming birthday complete the survey.
Here’s a preview of what the postcard will look like:

Relaunched in 2022 after a 15-year hiatus, Bexley’s Landmark Tree program honors the remarkable trees planted by past generations and ensures their legacy continues for decades to come. As the first city in the United States designated as an arboretum, we take pride in educating our community about these living treasures!
Each year, residents are invited to nominate exceptional trees—whether for their historical significance, impressive size, unique shape, striking coloration, or rarity. Landmark Trees can be located on both public and private property, so be sure to keep an eye out for a standout specimen in your neighborhood.
The 2026 Landmark Tree program is highlighting the Ginkgo biloba, one of the oldest living types of trees. A maidenhair tree, that grows 50-100 feet tall with a distinct pyramidal shape, fan-shaped leaves and brilliant autumn color.
Nominations are open through your nominations by Friday, April 17, 2026.
Save the Date: Fall Landmark Tree Tour Set for October 9: While Arbor Month takes place each spring in April, we wait until fall to host the annual Landmark Tree Tour so we can catch the trees at the height of their beauty. The City of Bexley and the Bexley Police Department are aware of a bomb threat that was called into the Bexley High School office at approximately 10:42 am on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
Following the threat, all Bexley City Schools buildings were placed in a reverse evacuation, meaning no one is permitted to enter or leave the buildings.
Bexley Police Department officers responded immediately and remain on site, including Chief Gary Lewis and a Bexley Police bomb detection canine. We are aware that several other Central Ohio school districts, including Columbus City Schools, received similar calls this morning.
At this time, the incident is believed to be a swatting situation, and there is no credible threat to Bexley students or staff. Out of an abundance of caution, officers are conducting a thorough investigation and sweep of the premises.
Parents and guardians are asked not to come to school buildings while the reverse evacuation remains in place. We will provide additional updates as soon as the situation is resolved.
The safety of Bexley students, staff, and community remains our highest priority.
In a city like Bexley—fully built out and rich with tradition—building community means strengthening what we have and turning long-term plans into visible results.
2025 was a year of execution. Major projects moved from paper to progress, including the skate park and pedestrian bridge at Schneider Park, design of a permanent Senior Center, and expanded placemaking efforts citywide. We also invested in the fundamentals—public safety initiatives, infrastructure improvements, sidewalks, trees, and roads—while maintaining strong, disciplined finances.
Nearly every major project leveraged outside funding, stretching local dollars further. And with more than 100 residents serving on boards and commissions, this work continues to be community-driven.
Community doesn’t happen by accident. In 2025, we built thoughtfully, responsibly, and for the next generation.

City service crews continue to make repairs on a street light circuit in the southern portion of Bexley after damages created from a utility contractor working in the area. Due to the nature of the damage, there is some trial-and-error troubleshooting, and crews are returning to make additional repairs as additional issues are discovered.
We’ll continue to keep on top of it until the circuit is completely repaired, and we thank you for your patience!
In partnership with the City of Bexley and The One Bexley Project, the Bexley Minority Parent Alliance (BMPA) is proud to celebrate Black History Month in February 2026 by recognizing outstanding individuals whose lives and work have helped shape our community. Congratulations to this year’s Bexley Black History Month Banner Program honorees: Dianne Day, Joseph Grant, Charles D. Hillman, and Sheila M. Robinson as well as all who were honored in 2025 and 2024.
Throughout the month of February, banners honoring these individuals will be displayed along Main Street, serving as both a celebration and a reminder of the many ways African Americans have contributed to Bexley’s past, present, and future.
This banner program is made possible through a partnership between the Bexley Minority Parent Alliance (BMPA), the City of Bexley, and One Bexley. Originally launched in 2024, the initiative was created to elevate stories that deserve to be seen, remembered, and shared—stories that reflect the depth, diversity, and strength of our community.
As you plan your budget for the year ahead, the City wants to provide more information about the upcoming increases in water and sewer rates. As a master meter community, Bexley purchases water and sewer service from the City of Columbus and passes along their rates. This means that when Columbus rates increase, our rates increase.
With an 18% water rate and 8% sewer rate increase adopted by Columbus City Council, Bexley understands that such an increase can be a considerable concern for our households. To soften the impact to Bexley community members, the 2026 Budget and Ordinance 33-25 adopted reduced rate increases of 15% for water and 6% for sewer service. The remaining balance of the increases will be subsidized by the City of Bexley through fund balances in 2026.
How much did the rates increase?
For Bexley residents, the increases is 15% for water and 6% for sewer rates. Per 1,000 cubic feet of service used, rates are as follows:
| Service | 2025 Rate | 2026 Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Water | $75.27 | $86.56 |
| Sewer | $95.72 | $101.46 |
When did the new rates go into effect?
The new rates began for water or sewer service used on or after January 1, 2026. For most residents, this means the increase will first be seen on your March 2026 quarterly bill.
How are the rates set?
Water and sewer rates are reviewed annually by the City of Columbus Utility Advisory Board and then recommendations are forwarded to Columbus City Council who ultimately adopt the rates.
The City of Bexley is then informed of the new rates by Columbus, and subsequently adopts our own rates by way of the City’s annual budget and an annual water and sewer rate ordinance (Ordinance 33-25 for 2026 rates). In most years, our increase matches the Columbus increase, but because of how drastic the 2026 increase from Columbus is, Bexley is subsidizing part of the increase and adopted slightly lower rate increases.
Why are the rates increasing more than usual?
Columbus cited multiple reasons why their rates are increasing including that adequate water supply, wastewater treatment capacity, and stormwater management systems need to be built to prepare for the rapid population growth Central Ohio is on track to hit by 2050.
For water service, this preparation includes the construction of a fourth water plant (at a cost of $2 billion), upgrades to the three existing water plants, new reservoirs, infrastructure improvements, and general operational cost increases (impacted by inflation). For sewer service, the new revenue will support additional sewer collection and treatment capacity, storm water management, sewer rehabilitation, and again general operational cost increases.
Are there ways to save money on my bill?
There are both programs and common-sense practices that can help you budget for and save money on your 2026 bills:
The State Historic Preservation Office invites property owners, residents, and interested community members to attend a public webinar series focused on the proposed Bexley Historic District spanning portions of East Main Street.
These informational meetings are designed to share background on the proposed historic district, explain how historic districts are evaluated and documented, and provide an opportunity for the public to learn about the process and ask questions. Staff will discuss the district’s historic development, architectural character, and the role historic districts play in preserving community history.
Each session will cover the same core information to ensure broad access, and participants are welcome to attend one or multiple meetings. Three virtual meetings will be hosted from 6:30-8:30 pm on January 13, February 17, and March 10. Register for (or watch the recording of) each meeting via the links below:
