Event Details

At a special meeting of City Council on September 9, Mayor Kessler announced his intent to resign to pursue an opportunity with the Columbus Partnership. Under the Bexley City Charter, City Council is responsible for electing a successor to fill a vacancy in the office of Mayor until the next regular municipal election. With Mayor Kessler’s announcement of his intent to resign, City Council will undertake a process to select Mayor Kessler’s successor.

Any elector of the City of Bexley who believes they possess the background, experience, and skills necessary to serve as Mayor is invited to submit a letter of interest and résumé to applications@bexley.org(opens in new tab) by September 18, 2026 at 11:59 pm.

Following the application deadline, City Council will review all submissions at the regularly scheduled September 22 meeting and will determine whether any additional steps in the selection process are appropriate. At the special meeting on September 30, 2026, Council anticipates voting to elect the next Mayor immediately after the resignation of Mayor Kessler.

Questions regarding the application or appointment process may be directed to Council President Saad at jsaad@bexley.org(opens in new tab).
