sensory inclusive supports
The City of Bexley is committed to creating welcoming, inclusive programs and events for all visitors, including those with sensory sensitivities. In partnership with the Mayor’s Office, the Recreation and Parks Department is working toward achieving KultureCity Sensory Inclusive Certification in 2026.
As part of this effort, the City is introducing sensory-inclusive features—such a sensory play zone, designated quiet spaces, and sensory support kits at select community events, helping more individuals and families participate comfortably and fully. Sensory kits will also be available at the Bexley Pool starting this summer.

Bexley Event Social Story
What is a Social Story?
A Social Story is a simple, step-by-step guide that helps people understand what to expect at an event or in a new environment. It uses clear language and visuals to walk through the experience ahead of time—like where you’ll go, what you might see, hear, or feel, and who can help if you need it. Social Stories are commonly used as part of sensory-inclusive programming to support individuals with autism, PTSD, dementia, and other sensory needs.
Why is it helpful?
For many people, new places and busy events can feel overwhelming. A Social Story helps reduce uncertainty by making the experience more predictable and familiar before you arrive. This can ease anxiety, build confidence, and help everyone feel more comfortable and included—so they can fully enjoy their time at City of Bexley events. Social Stories are one of many tools used by KultureCity to create welcoming, sensory-inclusive experiences for all.
