Mayor Ben’s Four Things Friday – 10/31/25

Friday, Oct 31, 2025 at 4:30 pm

Here are a few things happening in Bexley that (mostly) aren’t otherwise covered in this week’s Blast. And for this Halloween Friday, I have four very spooky things! Have a great weekend! – BK

Four Things Friday – Scary Edition!

1. Very Scary: E-Bikes Without Helmets!
What’s scarier than ghosts and goblins? E-bikes and scooters without helmets!  As more and more young riders take to our streets, please – whether you’re a parent, teacher, or friend – remind your riders that helmets save lives. They’re not optional, they’re essential. And yes, we’re tightening up our local rules to make sure safety keeps up with the times. A spooky crash is no one’s idea of a good scare.

2. Scary Cool: MuralFest 2026 Artist Announced!
This week work started on the 2026 MuralFest mural, And We Will Float Until Then (working title), by artist Luka Weinberger. Luka will be bringing bold color, imagination, and a touch of magic to the Bexley Square wall across from City Hall. Think less “haunted house,” more “hauntingly beautiful.” Keep an eye out on the mural’s progress (which will take some time given the recent weather) as the creative cauldron begins to bubble!

3. Scary Awesome: 2026 Budget on Deck
Our 2026 budget is downright frighteningly strong!  Fueled by a healthy balance sheet from years of careful financial stewardship, we’re investing in the essentials that keep Bexley thriving. The plan adds a new Social Services Coordinator to strengthen mental-health and resource-navigation support, bolsters code enforcement, and funds cybersecurity and financial control improvements. We’re also channeling major resources into infrastructure and environmental remediation, park development, and the design of a new Senior Center at 420 N. Cassady. It’s a budget built for the future—scary awesome in all the right ways.

4. Scary for the Fish: Leaves in Gutters!
They may look harmless – fluttering down like autumn confetti – but those fallen leaves become frightful when they clog our storm drains. When leaves wash into the storm system, they release nutrients that deplete oxygen in our waterways, creating scary conditions for fish and other aquatic life. So grab your rake, don your best monster mask, and help us keep Bexley’s creeks clean by ensuring leaves stay between the curb and the sidewalk, patiently waiting for our leaf crews on rotation!

Have a safe, spooky, and helmeted Halloween!
