https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfX_oLLBE5p_BoMa1glhc8SZGr_WF20nZUdKOUchUWAlbhPyg/viewform
The leadership of the City of Bexley, the Bexley City School District, and the Bexley Public Library is working together to plan an ongoing community program called the One Bexley project. One Bexley isn’t intended to replace work that we are continuing to do within our own institutions to address gaps in equity or to in any way alleviate the need for our own systemic reforms. Rather, One Bexley is a program designed for participation by our entire community, aiming to bridge gaps in understanding, deepen community unity, and provide the tools necessary to create cultural transformation and foster a dynamic sense of belonging for all residents and visitors in Bexley. This is an ambitious and exciting initiative, and one that will require the awareness and participation of the entire community.
In order for this to be successful, the program requires deep community participation in the planning stages as well as the project launch. We are holding a planning session for community members interested in helping to proactively plan and lead this effort, in anticipation of a wider community program to come. We’re sure you have a lot of questions, and we certainly don’t have all the answers. Asking you to join us in thinking through this program and how it can be truly meaningful for our community is a critical part of setting it up for success.
If you would like to help with the One Bexley project, a planning session will be held on April 19th at 6:30 p.m.. In order to help us plan for small-group facilitation and meeting logistics, we ask that you RSVP in advance via this link.

April 22, 2023 8:00 am - 11:00 am
Don't know where to throw? Drive through the Green Bexley Cleanup Day to discard select unwanted or unusable items on Delmar Drive. A list of accepted items will be available at greenbexley.org/earthandarbor ahead of the event.
If you have items to discard that are still in good working order, please consider rehoming them instead of putting them in the landfill! This is an annual opportunity to properly dispose of select items you no longer need or want. We ask that you stay in your car at all times and let volunteers remove items from your vehicle.
Rehoming items and buying used keep materials out of the landfill and negates shipping emissions, excess packaging, the extraction of new materials, and the energy used to create new products.
We will not be accepting large furniture or household hazardous waste (paints, chemicals, oils, etc.). For information about how to discard these items, please visit greenbexley.org/recycle-right.
This event is only possible through the generosity of volunteers. Please sign up to join in the fun at greenbexley.org/earthandarbor.

DEA Drug Take Back at Bexley Police Station
April 22, 2023 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Bexley City Police Department, 559 N Cassingham Rd, Bexley, OH 43209, USA
The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million people misused prescription stimulants, and 5.9 million people misused prescription tranquilizers or sedatives in 2019. Bexley Yard Sale/ Freecycle Day

2023 Yard Sale & Freecycle Day
This year, we’re expanding our community Yard Sale/ Freecycle to include Sunday! This all-weekend event will help buyers visit more locations and will allow community members who wouldn’t otherwise be able to participate on Saturdays.
This annual event is a great opportunity for residents to discard unwanted, usable items and re-home them to neighbors. In addition to keeping items out of the landfill, these events allow residents the opportunity to mingle and enjoy the outdoors!
Saturday 5/6 and Sunday 5/7 from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm – Community Yard Sale:
The Community Yard Sale will run on both days from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm. You do not need to sell for the entire time, but are able to do so during these hours. Any resident may host a yard sale, provided they register. Yard sales may be held in the front yard for this one day only, but may not be held on or in front of the sidewalk or in the street. Registration is free!
Saturday 5/6 and Sunday 5/7 from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm – Community Freecycle Event: The Community Freecycle event will run on both days from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm. During these hours, residents may place items that are unsold between the sidewalk and the curb; you may choose to have your items out for any length of time during this window. Items that do not fit in this area may be placed directly behind the side walk (between the sidewalk and the house). Items or groupings of items must be clearly marked as free for the taking and must be marked “Freecycle Day.”
Any items not taken by 5:00 pm on Sunday must be removed from the front yard and disposed of or recycled via other means.

Yiddish Book Center "Stories of Exile" Reading Group
Discussion of On the Landing: Stories by Yenta Mash
Quiet Reading Room
The Bexley Public Library has been selected as a participating library for the Yiddish Book Center's "Stories of Exile" Reading Groups for Public Libraries for 2023. We will begin this year-long series with a discussion of On the Landing: Stories of Yenta Mash. Naomi Brenner, Associate Professor in the Department of Near Eastern and South Asian Languages and Cultures at The Ohio State University, will co-facilitate the book discussion to provide cultural and historical contexts for these stories translated from Yiddish. Registration is required; those who are registered for the reading group will receive a copy of On the Landing to read and return to the library after the book discussion.
About the reading group:
The Yiddish Book Center’s “Stories of Exile” Reading Groups for Public Libraries is a reading and discussion program to engage teens and adults in thinking about experiences of displacement, migration, and diaspora. In this program, librarians organize reading groups to discuss three books of Yiddish literature in translation, and one book related to the experience of a community served by their library. The Yiddish Book Center’s “Stories of Exile” Reading Groups for Public Libraries is made possible by a gift from Sharon Karmazin.

One Bexley Community Planning Workshop
May 18, 2023 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Capital University Student Union, 745 Pleasant Ridge
What would it look like for us to redouble our efforts to ensure that each member of our community shares a deep sense of belonging? How can we be better neighbors to new residents and to those who have historically been denied access to Bexley and communities like ours? What if the best we had to offer - welcoming neighborhoods, a grounded sense of belonging, and dynamic opportunities for community members - was experienced equally by all members of our community?
The One Bexley Project is a collaborative initiative of the City of Bexley, the Bexley City School District, and the Bexley Public Library, and will be a long term, multifaceted program designed to more deliberately and comprehensively bolster a community culture that ensures that Bexley is welcoming and provides a sense of belonging for all community members and visitors. The project aims to provide the information and tools necessary to create cultural transformation and foster a dynamic sense of belonging for all. This is an ambitious and exciting initiative, and one that will require the awareness and participation of the entire community.
One Bexley is currently in the planning phase, involving a series of leadership and community workshops to help define the scope, format, and desired outcomes of the project. In order for this to be successful, the program requires deep community participation in the planning stages as well as the project launch. Our next workshop/session will be held on Thursday, May 18th at 6:30 pm at Schneider Hall in Capital University's Student Union. We would love to have you join us and look forward to adding your voice to this important and meaningful conversation. In order to help us plan for small-group facilitation and meeting logistics, we ask that you RSVP in advance via this link.

Book Description
CeCe LaRue knows what she wants in life, and in the kitchen, and that's control. She doesn't have time for distractions—from her past or present. But that doesn't mean a certain bright-eyed coworker hasn't captured her heart.
Evan Lawson is a chronic optimist, and he brings his sunny disposition to everything he does, especially his job at the diner. It's obvious why he loves his job so much, and it has everything to do with CeCe. He's been crushing on her for a while, but he's biding his time. Much like the perfect recipe, love cannot be rushed.
When a major food competition comes to town, Evan is thrilled at the prospect of competing. Despite her stellar culinary skills, CeCe is hesitant to participate. The celebrity chef host is more than a pretty face; he's the painful past she's been outrunning for years.
Can CeCe open herself up to the prospect of love and give Evan a chance? Can Evan's optimism keep them both afloat?
Falling For You is part of the Buckeye Falls series and can be enjoyed as a stand-alone read. Author Libby Kay's books are perfect for fans of Penny Reid and Sharon Sala's smalltown romances. These sweet romances will have readers falling in love with Buckeye Falls, Ohio. Slip in to this enchanting smalltown and stay awhile! You might just fall in love...

Book Description
When the wife of a plantation owner dies on a fateful night in 1887, John Billingsly makes the gut-wrenching decision to leave his mother and everything he knows to flee their slave cabin in Richmond, Virginia. Instructed by his mother to find a cousin in Mt. Hope, Alabama, John wends his way south in hope of a better life.
With the plantation owner shadowing him every step of the way, his journey is perilous. One misstep could cost him his freedom— and his life.
Inspired by a true story, Lost Souls Recovered is a mesmerizing historical family saga of loss and gain, survival and self-reinvention, and one family's fight for freedom in the midst of the post-Civil War American South.
Author Bio
As an amateur genealogist and family historian, Eric Walker was impelled to write his debut novel Lost Souls Recovered when he discovered the richness of family stories through research of historical documents and those told to him by relatives. As he read historical documents and talked to relatives, he'd envision a way to bring to life in fiction form many of his ancestors who lived a hardscrabble life and who worked to overcome hardship. He believed the written word could unlock doors as well as the imagination and unite our spirit through our visions. He is working on a second novel involving land loss through force and intimidation during the early post-Reconstruction era. He is a lawyer and lives in Ohio.

Social Justice Art Art as Activism
October 12, 2023 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Bexley Public Library, 2411 E Main St, Columbus, OH 43209, USA
In the summer of 2020, people took to the streets to protest the murders of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd and to declare out loud something that should already be inherently known, "Black Lives Matter." The artist community around Columbus came together to paint murals of solidarity and to encourage the protesters with messages of "LOVE IS HOW WE SURVIVE" and "DELIVER BLACK DREAMS. IT'S FOR ALL OF US" and "THE TIME IS ALWAYS NOW" (James Baldwin) and "UPROOT RACISM. GROW EMPATHY." The Greater Columbus Arts Council and Warhol & WALL ST. collaborated with local artists, writers, creators, and organizers to archive the art and document the historic moment of the BLM movement in Columbus in the beautiful and powerful Art | Activism | Action book. In May of 2023, the Greater Columbus Arts Council announced the "Greater Columbus. Greater ART" initiative which is the "first comprehensive public art plan for the city" that is designed to create a roadmap for public art around Columbus.
Join us for a panel discussion with contributors and artists featured in the Art | Activism | Action book. Learn about how artists use their art as activism to begin conversations that address social justice issues and discover what the future of public art will look like around Columbus.

Art Builds Community Workshop Art with Christine Abbott
October 24, 2023 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Bexley Public Library, 2411 E Main St, Columbus, OH 43209, USA
Join artist Christine Abbott for a wonderful Drypoint Prints workshop that will introduce intaglio printmaking. Drypoint prints resemble etchings but do not require metal or acid to create. Instead, an image is scratched into a plastic plate producing a “burr,”: a raised portion of plastic that catches and holds ink while the smooth portions of the plastic may be wiped clean. With the help of a printing press, this ink is transferred to a dampened sheet of paper. We will be using clear plastic sheets, ideal for easy tracing, and print with soy-based inks. Participants will leave with multiple impressions of their own original handmade prints.
Christine Abbott studied printmaking at the Glasgow School of Art in Glasgow, Scotland while completing her BFA at the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio. She received her MFA from Washington University in St. Louis. She has exhibited nationally for over ten years and has taught elementary age to college students with a wide variety of backgrounds.
The Art Builds Community Program Series is made possible through the generosity and funding of the Rath Creative Arts Fund of the Bexley Community Foundation.

Quartet for the End of Time performed by Unheard-of
November 9, 2023 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Bexley Public Library, 2411 E Main St, Columbus, OH 43209, USA
Quartet for the End of Time was composed by Olivier Messiaen while in a prisoner-of-war camp during WWII for a quartet of instruments available among the camp’s inmates. While the first performance took place in the camp, a contemporary chamber ensemble, Unheard-of will be talking about the history of the work and performing it at BPL.
Unheard-of Ensemble is a Brooklyn-based clarinet, violin, cello, and piano quartet dedicated to connecting new music to communities in New York and across the United States through the development and performance of adventurous programs using technology and interactive multimedia. Unheard-of is committed to the idea that new music belongs in every community, and implements this mission through concerts and educational workshops throughout New York as well as on tour. Unheard-of has grown since forming in 2014 into a nation-wide community across multiple artistic genres. With an approach that is open and welcoming of all voices, Unheard-of strives to be a vehicle for development and growth for voices novel and experienced, experimental and traditional, uncomfortable and accessible. The Unheard-of Ensemble tours regularly, commissions large-scale multimedia projects, and runs its own summer workshop for emerging composers, the Collaborative Composition Initiative (CCI). The 2023-24 season focuses on our newest performance series in collaboration with the Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club, the Cultural Ecologies Series, an immersive set of multimedia concerts utilizing Brooklyn’s own Gowanus Canal as our stage. On tour, Unheard-of visits Georgia State University, Columbus State University, University of Florida, the Johnstone Series at Short North Stage, Ohio University, Cal State Northridge, and the University of Pittsburgh. In past seasons, the ensemble has had residencies and performances at Oberlin, Northwestern, CCM, Manhattan School of Music, as well as at New York venues National Sawdust, Roulette, Symphony Space, Carnegie, and Merkin Hall.

Art Builds Community Workshop Art with Christine Abbott
November 12, 2023 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
