Jeffrey Mansion Expansion & Master Plan
The Jeffrey Mansion Renovation & Expansion project is almost complete! This project would not be possible without the support of the Bexley Community Foundation, City of Bexley & Bexley City Council, Recreation Board, and the community – thank you for your support!
Thank you, Bexley Community Foundation!
The Bexley Community Foundation has donated over $2.5 million towards the Jeffrey Mansion Expansion Project. Due to the generosity of them and their donors, this project is coming to life.
The Jeffrey Mansion Expansion Project is estimated to be completed in the spring of 2021. If you have questions or comments about the project, click here to email Recreation and Parks Director Michael Price.
Project Update from Recreation Director Michael Price
We are putting the finishing touches on the Jeffrey Mansion Project! Nearly 100% of the interior work is complete. We continue to finalize punch list items.
The remaining work continues to focus on the exterior. The front porch and stairs are nearly complete and the railings have been installed, which will soon be painted. The handicapped entrance is now accessible. The automatic door and railings are installed. The last item will be paint. The asphalt path that begins in the tennis court parking lot and continues through the woods to the Mansion, has been laid. The decorative brick paver transition is complete. This area will be finished with a few safety signs, alerting cars and pedestrians of the new intersections.
We are excited to announce that we have hosted a number of events including weddings and family events in 2021. Programming is also in full swing across the entire building with Jeffrey Mansion Preschool (2nd Floor), yoga and fitness classes, youth programming, art classes, older adult activities and much more! Once again, thank you all for your support of this amazing project as we are so grateful for the opportunities it will provide to our community. Also, our staff have greatly appreciated the elevator to the 3rd floor for transporting equipment and supplies!
We look forward to celebrating this project with all of you in the coming months!
Michael Price, Director of Recreation and Parks
Construction Updates
Construction updates for the Jeffrey Mansion Expansion project are posted below. We are planning to post a final video of the project by Spring 2022.
Update on Jeffrey Mansion Rentals
Those with confirmed reservations will be contacted to schedule a tour once construction is complete. Rentals are now open for reservations beginning in April 2021 and may be reserved up to one year in advance. This will include 2021 rates as shown for the Jeffrey House (upper level space) and the Carriage Court (new lower level space). Please note that Jeffrey House will not be available for rentals until June 2021. Click here for more information regarding our rental policies and procedures.
We appreciate your understanding and patience throughout the construction period. We know that the end product will be so rewarding for our department, the City of Bexley, and our community!
Jeffrey Mansion Master Plan
The Jeffrey Mansion Master Plan Refresh Committee voted 8-0 to approve the Jeffrey Mansion Master Plan Refresh. At the August 29th steering committee meeting the committee reviewed the final version of the plan, made a few changes and voted unanimously to approve the plan. The committee also passed a motion "to support the concepts outlined in the 'Intent of Alcohol Policy' overview, and to urge the Recreation Board and City Council to consider those concepts," in regards to potential amendments to the Alcohol Policy Framework.

Project History
The Jeffrey Mansion Commission
In 2007 the City of Bexley developed the Jeffrey Mansion Commission (JMC) which was tasked to “develop a plan for the restoration and possible expansion of the Jeffrey Mansion as a multi-purpose community center.”
The Commission’s vision was to preserve the Jeffrey Mansion and it’s grounds as a vibrant, accessible and self-sustaining cultural and recreational centerpiece with multiple uses appealing to the diverse population of the Bexley Community. The mission was to develop a plan which included proposed uses for the Jeffrey property, physical changes needed for the plan, estimated cost and funding alternatives, and evaluating the overall impact on our community.
Commission Committee Structure
A steering committee was formed to ensure feedback from residents, facility users, and community stakeholders is incorporated into the refresh of the Jeffrey Mansion and Park Master Plan. The steering committee, as defined by the Recreation Board, will consist of the following:
1 – Recreation Board Member
1 – City Councilperson
1 – Bexley Community Foundation Representative
2 – Jeffrey Mansion Area Residents
2 – Jeffrey Mansion Program User/Park Visitor
2 – Ex Officio Members (Mayor Kessler & Michael Price)
Master Plan Refresh Consultant
Architectural firm, Schooley Caldwell and Associates (SCA), has been selected to help facilitate the master plan refresh process. SCA is a well respected firm with a wealth of knowledge and experience working with historic facilities. SCA is extremely familiar with the 2008 Jeffrey Mansion and Park Master Plan as they were a consultant on the JMC. Additionally, SCA served as the design team on the 2010 Jeffrey Mansion renovation.
