Jeffrey Mansion Expansion & Master Plan
We are excited to announce that the Jeffrey Mansion Renovation & Expansion project is underway! This project would not be possible without the support of the Bexley Community Foundation, City of Bexley & Bexley City Council, Recreation Board, and the community, so thank you for your support!
As construction begins, we wanted to make our users aware of some inconveniences as it relates to Mansion & Park access and parking availability that will come up and thank you in advance for your patience.
The north Mansion lot will become a part of the construction zone, so we will be losing access there. This will also affect access down to the park and Memorial Shelter via the north lot, so be sure to access the these locations from the Jeffrey Park Lot.
Jeffrey Mansion & Park Access & Parking Options
1. South Lot at the Mansion
2. Parkview Ave & Clifton Ave.
3. Jeffrey Park Lot (off Clifton Ave.)
Thank you, Bexley Community Foundation!
The Bexley Community Foundation has donated over $2.5 million towards the Jeffrey Mansion Expansion Project. Due to the generosity of them and their donors, this project is coming to life.
The Jeffrey Mansion Expansion Project is estimated to be completed in the spring of 2021. If you have questions or comments about the project, click here to email Recreation and Parks Director Michael Price.
Project Update from Recreation Director
We are putting the finishing touches on the Jeffrey Mansion Project! Nearly 100% of the interior work is completed with going through the punch out list only remaining. There continues to be a delay on the material needed to complete the Carriage Court East and West entrances, so the temporary entrances will remain for the time being. The remaining work continues to focus on the exterior. The front porch and stairs are nearly complete with the installation of the railings still remaining. The laying of the final asphalt work, including the path to the tennis court lot should be completed in July. There continues to be some touch up work that needs to be done on the exterior including the wall to the ramp entrance on the east-side of the building. The rod iron system by the new back patio also needs to be installed.
We are excited to announce that we have hosted a number of events including weddings, Jeffrey Mansion Preschool Graduation as well as the annual Bexley High School Senior Graduation Party. The new space was a tremendous hit and we are so thankful that Jeffrey Mansion was able to once again host this community tradition. Programming has also begun using the new space with yoga classes, the Jeffrey Mansion Preschool graduation, Tae Kwon Doe, summer camp training and more. Once again, thank you all for your support of this amazing project. We are so grateful for the opportunities this project will provide. Also, having the elevator to take equipment up to the offices has been much appreciated by the staff!
We look forward to celebrating this project with all of you in the coming months!
Michael Price, Director of Recreation and Parks
Construction updates for the Jeffrey Mansion Expansion project are posted below. We will add more videos as we have them!
Update on Jeffrey Mansion Rentals
Those with confirmed reservations will be contacted to schedule a tour once construction is complete. Rentals are now open for reservations beginning in April 2021 and may be reserved up to one year in advance. This will include 2021 rates as shown for the Jeffrey House (upper level space) and the Carriage Court (new lower level space). Please note that Jeffrey House will not be available for rentals until June 2021. Click here for more information regarding our rental policies and procedures.
We appreciate your understanding and patience throughout the construction period. We know that the end product will be so rewarding for our department, the City of Bexley, and our community!
Jeffrey Mansion Master Plan
The Jeffrey Mansion Master Plan Refresh Committee voted 8-0 to approve the Jeffrey Mansion Master Plan Refresh. At the August 29th steering committee meeting the committee reviewed the final version of the plan, made a few changes and voted unanimously to approve the plan. The committee also passed a motion "to support the concepts outlined in the 'Intent of Alcohol Policy' overview, and to urge the Recreation Board and City Council to consider those concepts," in regards to potential amendments to the Alcohol Policy Framework.

The Jeffrey Mansion Commission
In 2007 the City of Bexley developed the Jeffrey Mansion Commission (JMC) which was tasked to “develop a plan for the restoration and possible expansion of the Jeffrey Mansion as a multi-purpose community center.”
The Commission’s vision was to preserve the Jeffrey Mansion and it’s grounds as a vibrant, accessible and self-sustaining cultural and recreational centerpiece with multiple uses appealing to the diverse population of the Bexley Community. The mission was to develop a plan which included proposed uses for the Jeffrey property, physical changes needed for the plan, estimated cost and funding alternatives, and evaluating the overall impact on our community.
Commission Committee Structure
A steering committee was formed to ensure feedback from residents, facility users, and community stakeholders is incorporated into the refresh of the Jeffrey Mansion and Park Master Plan. The steering committee, as defined by the Recreation Board, will consist of the following:
1 – Recreation Board Member
1 – City Councilperson
1 – Bexley Community Foundation Representative
2 – Jeffrey Mansion Area Residents
2 – Jeffrey Mansion Program User/Park Visitor
2 – Ex Officio Members (Mayor Kessler & Michael Price)
