This page contains street project updates in Bexley. Updates regarding these projects, such as parking restrictions, road closures, and water interruptions are posted on this page as they occur. This page is updated frequently and larger projects are listed below. Check back for additional notices from city officials or project engineers.

Street Projects Update – July 7th Update

Construction Season is now in progress and several construction projects are getting started for the year. As a reminder, please use extreme caution when driving, biking, or walking near an active construction area. When driving, please proceed slowly and be prepared to stop when workers are present. We appreciate your patience and care in keeping our crews safe!

2200 E Main Street- Fitzgerald Apartment Building Development:

There may be temporary lane closures on Main Street and sidewalk closures on the North side of Main Street between College Avenue and the Gateway North development. A detour for pedestrians will be provided to the South side of Main Street between Parkview and College Avenue.

Columbia Gas Line Replacement:

A new Columbia Gas Line Replacement project is slated to begin in mid-August in the area of Euclaire Avenue, S Cassingham Avenue, Montrose Avenue and Charles Street in the blocks between Livingston and Charles Street. Notices will be provided to residents by Columbia Gas later this summer, prior to the commencement of work.

Stanbery Avenue Waterline Improvements

Work is substantially complete on the water main installation. Street Resurfacing work is substantially complete. There will be some minor pavement marking and punch list work being completed during this time.

N Columbia Waterline Improvements

Work is nearing completion on the second phase for the section of water main between Maryland Avenue and N Commonwealth Park. The next phase of work from Maryland Avenue to Caroline Avenue will begin the week of July 7th and will continue over the next two months. There will be parking restrictions on the street and temporary road closures to through traffic Monday through Friday during working hours. Access to local residents will be open from Maryland Avenue on the South end or Caroline Avenue on the North end, depending on the work being performed each day. Please check with the workers on the project if you are trying to access a local residence and need assistance.

City of Columbus Special Notice

The City of Columbus has started work on North Cassady Avenue that will create a lengthy traffic pattern change on Cassady Avenue north of the railroad tracks just north of Delmar.

Columbia Gas Line Replacement Project

Status Updates

August 16, 2024 Update

Columbia Gas Line Replacement:

Sidewalk and driveway pavement restoration work is mostly complete along Sheridan Avenue, Astor Avenue, Mound Street, Sheridan Park Court, and College Avenue between Astor and Mound.

The re-paving of College Avenue was completed last week. Pavement markings and edge sealing is scheduled for this week. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers with some minor delays.

2024 Street & Sidewalk Improvements

August 16, 2024 Update:

2024 Street Improvements:

Street Improvements:

Concrete curb, sidewalk and driveway approach repairs are scheduled to begin this week for Euclaire Avenue, North Ardmore (between Broad and Denver), and the intersection of Northview & Ruhl. No Parking signs will be posted in several areas where repairs are being made.

Chelsea Avenue is scheduled for paving beginning on Tuesday August 20th. There will be no parking allowed on the street during the hours between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm until the paving is complete.

Sidewalk Improvements:

Work is scheduled to begin this week and is expected to last approximately four months. Notices will be provided to residents where sidewalk panels are to be replaced. Residents who have underground sprinkler systems in the street right of way (near the sidewalk or curb) are required to mark the location of their underground lines and sprinkler heads prior to the removal of the sidewalks. Please contact your underground sprinkler maintenance contractor if you need help marking these lines.

Stanbery Avenue Waterline

Status Updates

August 16, 2024 Update

Work has begun on Stanbery Avenue between Broad and Maryland and will continue into the fall. Additional notices will be sent to residents and posted on the front doors of each address as needed going forward. Work involves the installation of a new ductile iron water main and copper service lines under the street pavement to replace the existing cast iron water main and lead service lines that were originally installed in the 1920's.

Please note: Residents who have underground sprinkler systems in the street right of way (near the sidewalk or curb) are required to mark the location of the lines and sprinkler heads prior to the beginning work on the street.

Please contact your underground sprinkler maintenance contractor if you need help marking these lines.

Drexel Avenue

Status Updates

June 10, 2024 Update

The Drexel Avenue project is a multi-year water, sewer, and roadway project designed to modernize infrastructure and calm traffic along this portion of Drexel Avenue, with the added goal of reducing the speed limit on this primarily residential street to 25 MPH*. To date, we have completed the rehabilitation of the existing storm and sanitary sewers to enhance the function of our sewage and drainage system. We have also completed the replacement of our water mains in this corridor to improve the function of our water system and provide better water quality and fire hydrant flow.

Work on the first phase of streetscape improvements on Drexel is also nearing completion. Work to date includes the installation of curbs, gutters, curb ramps, sidewalk panel replacement, new medians and bump-outs. Tree up-lighting was added to the medians in the Spring. Designed with traffic calming in mind, and particularly engineered to ensure safe pedestrian crossings, the new medians will help to improve safety on the street overall, especially at the newly protected pedestrian crossings. One ultimate goal of this project is to meet the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) requirements for lowering the speed limit on Drexel to 25 MPH.

Phase II, namely resurfacing and striping, is awaiting final bidding by ODOT. The City anticipates ODOT moving forward this summer, with substantial construction completion by fall 2024. In the meantime, City crews have temporarily restripesd the existing pavement.

The City appreciates neighbors’ patience during this process. Please continue to drive with caution in the area as final construction punch-list items are underway.

* Because it is a state route, a speed limit reduction on Drexel requires a traffic study that demonstrates that drivers are driving close to the intended speed limit. Therefore, the traffic calming infrastructure is required to first calm traffic before a successful petition to lower the speed limit is filed with ODOT.
