14 Things Friday – 2025 Year in Review
- Miles of new water lines, sewer infrastructure, and streets paved.
In 2025, we invested heavily in the fundamentals—replacing aging water and sewer lines and paving miles of streets across the city. These behind-the-scenes projects aren’t flashy, but they’re essential to reliability, safety, and long-term fiscal health. - Secured over $2,000,000 in LinkUS funds for Bexley infrastructure.
We successfully secured more than $2 million in LinkUS funding to support infrastructure improvements tied to regional transit and mobility. This positions Bexley to benefit from smart, forward-looking investments without placing the full burden on local taxpayers. - Brought back SummerFest.
SummerFest returned in 2025, further amping up the Labor Day Block Party on Main Street, incorporating the Bexley Art Festival and BrewFest into one huge block party celebration on Main. - Installed outdoor, public AED units.
We installed publicly accessible outdoor AEDs at key locations around the city. These devices can save lives, and their placement reflects a commitment to public safety that extends beyond traditional emergency response. - Council passed a framework for limited-scope Accessory Dwelling Units.
City Council adopted a thoughtful, limited-scope ADU framework designed specifically for Bexley’s context. It balances neighborhood character with the need for housing flexibility and options for residents across generations. - 25% increase in Recreation and Parks programming, with over 16,500 registrations.
Recreation and Parks programming grew by 25% this year, serving more than 16,500 total registrations. That growth reflects both strong community demand and a sustained investment in quality, accessible programming for all ages. - Broke ground on the pedestrian and bike bridge at Schneider Park.
We officially broke ground on the long-awaited pedestrian and bike bridge at Schneider Park – thanks to robust funding from a grant from ODNR, the State Capital Budget, and the BCF Year of the Parks grant. This project will improve connectivity, safety, and access to green space for years to come. - Launched Slow Down Bexley.
Slow Down Bexley launched as a citywide effort to promote safer driving and calmer streets. It combines education, design, and enforcement to prioritize people over speed. - Inked a deal with Torat Emet to establish a Main Street police resource space.
We partnered with Torat Emet to establish a new police resource space on Main Street. This collaborative approach improves visibility and accessibility while making efficient use of existing community assets. - Passed a phenomenal updated Land Use Strategy.
The City adopted an updated Land Use Strategy that reflects extensive community input and modern planning best practices. It provides a clear, values-driven roadmap for growth, preservation, and reinvestment. - Installed a newly reconfigured pool parking lot.
The pool parking lot was fully reconfigured and improved to enhance safety, circulation, and accessibility. It’s a practical upgrade that makes a heavily used community space work better for everyone. - Broke ground on the Bexley skate park (opening early 2026).
Groundbreaking began on the Bexley skate Park, a long-requested project for our youth and families. Construction is underway, with completion expected in early 2026. - Began the pickleball court lighting project.
Work began on installing lighting at the pickleball courts to extend play into evening hours. This upgrade responds directly to resident feedback and maximizes use of a popular recreational amenity. - So. many. trees. planted
Thanks in part from funding through the Trees for Bexley Fund of the Bexley Community Foundation, we planted over 200 new trees across parks, streets, and public spaces in 2025. Each one is a long-term investment in environmental health, shade, beauty, and climate resilience.
We had a super busy 2025, and there’s even more in store for 2026. Next week’s column will focus on some top picks for what’s coming in 2026. Stay tuned, and Happy New Year, Bexley!
