Here are a few things happening in Bexley that (mostly) aren’t otherwise covered in this week’s Blast. Have a great weekend! – BK

Citizen Scientists at Alum Creek
A huge shout-out to Bexley Girl Scout Troop #6413! Since 2023, these scouts have been working alongside FACT (Friends of Alum Creek and Tributaries) as part of the Izaak Walton League’s “Salt Watch” program. While Salt Watch Week officially took place at the end of January, this troop monitors chloride levels month-to-month at Jeffrey Park and Academy Park. FACT recently noted that the troop has done an “outstanding job” with consistent sampling, particularly before and after storm events. In fact, their data from Academy Park is currently providing some of the best insights into chloride concentrations for the entire Lower Alum Creek area. Want to see the data for yourself? You can track their findings at the Clean Water Hub here:  Academy Park Data Site   //   Jeffrey Park Data Site

From “Real Talk” to the Big Stage: Join the One Bexley Conversation
The One Bexley initiative is moving full steam ahead with a brand-new digital home launching soon! This follows a powerful “Real Talk” session at the library this week regarding how we can best support our refugee and immigrant neighbors. Up next – don’t miss the Story Slam – join us this Wednesday, February 18, at 7:00 pm at the Drexel Theatre for an evening of personal stories of resilience. And if you have a story to share, it’s not too late to add your voice! We’ll keep an eye on the Storyteller Sign-up Form for the next few days as we work to finalize the lineup.

Walking, Biking, and Rolling: The Active Transportation Grant
Great news this week that we’ve officially been awarded a grant from ODOT for a city-wide Active Transportation Plan! But what does that actually mean for you? It means we’re getting expert consultant assistance to design a safer, more connected Bexley. Whether you’re biking to Main Street shops, walking the dog, or scootering to school, this plan will help us identify the best ways to improve our sidewalks, crosswalks, and infrastructure for everyone.

A Warm “Thank You” to Our Events Season Title Sponsor
Planning our community’s favorite traditions – from the 4th of July fireworks to the Harvest Festival – takes a village (and a budget!). We are thrilled to recognize the team at Ohio Heating and Cooling for stepping up as the Title Season Sponsor for the 2026 Bexley Celebrations and Events calendar. Their generous commitment ensures that our community programming remains vibrant and accessible all year long. If you or your organization would like to help sponsor our events season, we’re still lining up event sponsors for the many Main Events, Jazzes in the Parks, Summerfests, etc. that make up our amazing lineup. Contact Hallie at the Bexley Community Foundation for more information!
