Here are a few things happening in Bexley that (mostly) aren’t otherwise covered in this week’s Blast. Have a great weekend! – BK
What Likely Columbus Water Rate Increases Mean for Bexey
Earlier this week, The Columbus Dispatch reported on the significant 2026 water and sewer rate increases being proposed to Columbus City Council. As a master meter community, Bexley purchases our water from Columbus and passes along their rates, which means that when Columbus rates increase, our rates increase.
With an 18% water rate and 8% sewer rate increase proposed for Columbus, we know news like this can understandably cause concern for Bexley households. That’s why Bexley is taking steps to soften the impact for our community by proposing reduced increases of 15% for water and 6% for sewer in the 2026 Budget revision going to City Council next week. We’ll share more after Columbus City Council takes official action and Bexley City Council considers the matter further.
When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Paninis
While we were all sad to see long-time pizzeria Anthony’s leave their Pleasant Ridge location last spring, we’re excited to share that Panini Opa plans to open its newest location in its place sometime this spring. The Greek and Italian inspired menu will feature much more than panini –check out what’s likely to be on offer here.
Waste Not on America Recycles Day
Speaking of food…did you know that 76% of what we throw away could be recycled, composted, or reused and food waste and cardboard are the two biggest culprits? On America Recycles Day (November 15), remember that in Bexley, it’s easy to do better. With weekly recycling pickup and curbside food waste recycling, you can keep more out of the trash and help the planet right from your doorstep.
Budget Highlight #2 – Education and Outreach Officer
For my second budget highlight, I’m spotlighting another newly proposed role–this time in our Police Department–of Education and Outreach Officer. Their focus would be on becoming a go-to connection between the department and youth in the community. The role is all about building relationships, fostering trust, and creating positive connections early on. By focusing on education and outreach, this officer can help prevent problems before they start, support safety programs, and give young people a chance to engage with law enforcement in a positive, meaningful way. We believe It’s a proactive step that benefits not just our kids, but the whole Bexley community.
