Relaunched in 2022 after a 15-year hiatus, Bexley’s Landmark Tree program honors the remarkable trees planted by past generations and ensures their legacy continues for decades to come. As the first city in the United States designated as an arboretum, we take pride in educating our community about these living treasures!
Each year, residents are invited to nominate exceptional trees—whether for their historical significance, impressive size, unique shape, striking coloration, or rarity. Landmark Trees can be located on both public and private property, so be sure to keep an eye out for a standout specimen in your neighborhood.
The 2026 Landmark Tree program is highlighting the Ginkgo biloba, one of the oldest living types of trees. A maidenhair tree, that grows 50-100 feet tall with a distinct pyramidal shape, fan-shaped leaves and brilliant autumn color.
Nominations are open through your nominations by Friday, April 17, 2026.
Save the Date: Fall Landmark Tree Tour Set for October 9: While Arbor Month takes place each spring in April, we wait until fall to host the annual Landmark Tree Tour so we can catch the trees at the height of their beauty. Save the date for the 2026 tour on Friday, October 9 at 1:00 pm. Registration is coordinated through Bexley’s Recreation and Parks MyRec portal, and advertised in the seasonal Activity Brochure and in the Bexley Blast. We hope you join us in celebrating and preserving the trees that define Bexley’s natural character.
